Downed trees reported along major Suffolk roads Tuesday

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Suffolk officials confirm several trees fell across the city Tuesday.

A portion of Nansemond Parkway was closed in both directions Tuesday as the result of downed trees and wires.

The City of Suffolk confirmed in a news release at 2:30 p.m. that although the trees that fell earlier in the day near Falcon Street had already been removed, Dominion Energy advised it would be a couple more hours before the utility repairs were complete.

The Dominion Energy power outage map showed more than 1,100 customers in Suffolk were initially impacted when the trees fell on the line.

Traffic was being diverted at Progress Road until the road reopened.

WAVY also received a picture from a viewer Tuesday that shows a tree down across Route 58. She took this image while stopped in traffic around 11:30 a.m.

As you can see, the tree fell across all three lanes of traffic.

Officials confirmed two eastbound lanes of Route 58/1900 block of Portsmouth Blvd. were closed at 11:30 a.m. because of the tree that fell. Ten minutes later, all eastbound lanes of traffic were closed because of a separate car crash not involving the tree.
