The San Jose Police Department (SJPD) plans to start the Capture Crime Pilot Program on February 14, 2024. This is an extension of the SJ CAM Program. Mayor Matt Mahan proposed the initiative in May 2022 to address rising crime rates. The program will focus on improving security in certain high-crime commercial areas.

The Capture Crime Pilot Program was created with the help of former Mayor Sam Liccardo and continues to be supported by Mayor Matt Mahan. The program targets areas with high crime rates. Local businesses can choose to participate.

Participating businesses in the targeted areas will receive surveillance cameras and local hard drives at no cost. This partnership between the SJPD and local businesses aims to improve the safety of San Jose’s community.

The goal of the Capture Crime Pilot Program is to discourage crime and promote safety through technology and community involvement. A launch event will be held at Trine’s Cafe on Monterey Hwy, San Jose, on February 14, 2024, at 10:15 AM.
