HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Tuesday, the University of Hawaii opened and blessed the new Alexander Waterhouse Sports Performance Facility on its UH-Manoa campus.
The facility, which operates as the main training center for UH athletes, originally opened in 1994 and hasn’t had any major upgrades until now. It’s a game changer for student-athletes who have waited over a year for their new gym.
“We’re very excited to have the new facility and all the shiny equipment,” stated Kate Lang, Wahine Volleyball Team Senior Setter. “I feel very spoiled and I know that my teammates feel spoiled.”
The $2.4 million renovation also includes a nutrition bar where students can get protein shakes, energy bars, fruits and more. The gym is also complete with custom made equipment
“Nutrition is going to be an added incentive for [students] to work hard cause we can always help them refuel and get them going between classes,” stated Tommy Heffernan, Training & Conditioning Director.
