Last week, a severe storm in Southern California led to widespread pothole damage in the City of San Bernardino. The storm, which brought over nine inches of rain to some parts of the city, resulted in debris, flood damage, malfunctioning streetlights, and numerous potholes. The city’s Public Works Department has been dispatching six to eight crews daily to repair the damage since the rain stopped.
These crews have been working extra shifts in the early morning and evening, making significant headway. In a few days, they have filled or repaired over 3,000 potholes. The city expects all patching work from this storm to be finished within the next two weeks.
As of February 12, the Public Works Department reported that they had patched 3,003 potholes, covering roughly 13,942 square feet and using 152 tons of material. The department has received 361 pothole repair requests, with 258 completed and 103 still pending.
This week, a Public Works contractor will start more comprehensive repairs on three street segments: Rialto between Allen and Sierra Way, University to Hallmark from the freeway westbound to Hallmark, and Palm Ave from the freeway westbound to Hallmark.
