EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — It’s Ash Wednesday and many local churches are trying to make sure everyone can take part.
Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance for Christians and is typically marked with ashes in the sign of a cross on someone’s forehead.
“People, I find, are filled with so much guilt that it really impacts their life,” said Reverend Doctor Laurene Bowers with the Newman Congregational Church.
“It’s so important for people to experience that forgiveness and know truly that God has forgiven them by putting a symbol on their forehead that reminds them of God’s love,” she continued.
Drive-through ashes or “ashes to go” are being offered at the following local churches:
- St. John’s Episcopal Church, Barrington: 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
- Newman Congregation Church, East Providence: 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Kingston Congregational Church, South Kingstown:7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- The Church of the Redeemer, Providence: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Thanks for signing up!
