Pro-Palestine protest shut down roads near Pioneer Park

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — More than 100 people gathered in the street near Pioneer Park to show their support for Palestine on Tuesday night, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department .

SLCPD posted on social media , saying the crowd appeared to consist of about 150 people.

Denise Weaver helped organize Tuesday’s event in Salt Lake as part of a national movement to show support and “shut it down” for Palestine.

“I’m really glad to see that, in two days, we were able to draw hundreds of people out into the street,” Weaver said. “I think it shows that, here in Salt Lake, and here in Utah specifically, that people feel passionately about this.”

Weaver said the protest was meant to draw attention to the genocide in Palestine, with a specific focus on the situation in Rafah , where millions of people have fled to, according to AP.

“We’re out here to draw attention to the genocide that’s taking place in Palestine, and specifically trying to draw attention to the massacre that’s happening right now in Rafah,” Weaver said.
