ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Lobos have swept the Wolf Pack. After previously beating Nevada by 34 points last month in the Pit, the second matchup of the year was much closer in Reno on Tuesday night. In the end, the margin would only be by one with the Lobos on top 83-82.
While the game was close down stretch, there were moments throughout where each team seemed to be in control. Both UNM and Nevada went on double-digit scoring runs, including one for the Wolf Pack that gave Nevada a lead in the final minutes of the game.
The difference late came from the shooting of Jamal Mashburn Jr. With the Lobos trailing by three with 1:12 remaining, Mash unloaded a long three to tie the game. As Nevada scored on its ensuing possession, the Lobos once again put the ball in the hands on Mashburn Jr. He connected on a corner triple with 22 seconds left for what was the game-winning shot.
Mashburn Jr. went on to lead UNM with 17 points. Jelen House (13), Mustapha Amzil (12) JT Toppin (11) and Nelly Jr. Joseph (11) also finished in double-figures. Jr. Joseph also recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds.
