Pickup truck driver ran red light, causing multi-vehicle crash in central Bakersfield: police

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Police said a reported reckless driver led to a multi-vehicle crash that injured at least one person Wednesday morning in central Bakersfield.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of California and Chester avenues just after 10:30 a.m. A police spokesperson said dispatchers received reports of a reckless driver in the area right before the collision. The department said the driver of Chevrolet pickup truck ran a red light and collided with three other vehicles at the intersection.

Video from the scene showed the damaged vehicles following the crash. Several people were seen on video attempting to help a driver in one vehicle. The Chevrolet pickup truck came to rest at the southeast corner of the intersection.

One person was hospitalized with moderate injuries from the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was apprehended and was being evaluated for possible DUI, a police spokesperson said.
