City to introduce new trash cans for pick-up collection

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. But, for the

Columbus Department of Public Safety

, it’s less about the treasure, and more about the treasure chest.

The city

announced

it will be replacing all larger trash bins with smaller ones by the end of 2024. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Current bin sizes are 300 gallons and the new ones will be 90 gallons.
  • The new 90-gallon bins feature wheels, making it easier to move them to and from the curb.
  • Why the switch ? The city hopes this effort will reduce illegal dumping and littering near large bins.
  • The old 300-gallon bins aren’t going into the trash, either. Instead, they will be recycled, per CDPS .
