FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – What a gorgeous Valentine’s Day we have experienced this year across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio! Hope you have enjoyed the sunshine and warm air for your holiday plans!
February 2024 off to record warm start
Here’s a snapshot from outside of the WANE 15 studios around 2 PM Wednesday afternoon. Notice the crystal clear blue sky, along with the flags being still in the very light winds.
Wednesday’s high temperature in the 40s is cooler than last year’s high temperature of 54° in Fort Wayne. While it was gloomier and we saw a little bit of rain last year, it did not hinder plans very much. We’ve climbed as high as 63° on Valentine’s Day and have dropped as low as -18° in Fort Wayne on the holiday in the past. The most precipitation we’ve seen on Valentine’s Day in Fort Wayne is 1.45 inches in 1949 and the most snow is 2.3 inches in 1991.
Last year’s warmth comes after three straight very cold Valentine’s Days, with highs in the teens and 20s. We even saw three tenths of an inch of snow on this date in 2021 on top of the five inches of snow already on the ground. We saw highs in the 40s in 2019, but there was still an inch of snow on the ground then. There was even more snow on the ground in 2007, when a blizzard continued to drop snow into the holida y .
