🔭 From the sun to the Simpsons: Happy 460th Birthday, Galileo, the renowned Italian philosopher, astronomer and mathematician who made the world know that the Earth revolves around the sun, was born Feb. 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. He died Jan. 8, 1642 at age 77 in Arcetri, Italy, and to animator Matt Groening, who created the comic strip Life in Hell and the TV staples “The Simpsons” and “Futurama.”

There is a noticeable lack of acknowledgement and information related to Lake County‘s Black History — especially since we’re celebrating Black History Month this month.
Fortunately, there is good reading out there if you take the time to look, and one book stands out.
The Florida HIstorical Quarterly and the Mount Dora Historical Society and Museum have cited Vivian Owens’s book, “The Mount Dorans; African American History Notes of a Florida Town (2000).”
