WEBSTER, PENFIELD, N.Y. (WROC) — The BayTowne Plaza in Penfield and Webster has a new place to get a tasty treat, Donutchew. They’re open every day of the week.
It is a franchise that specializes in mochi donuts. Mochi is a kind of rice flour that when fried creates a chewier texture.
Partner of this franchise, Michael Blair, says that the fun donut allows them to experiment with different flavors, like churro, cookies and cream, and even a Valentine’s Day special strawberry treat.
They other kinds of Asian-inspired treats as well: from a Korean corn dog, to a fried croissant sandwich, to boba tea, coffee, and even a new item that he says is popular on TikTok, called tang hulu : a skewer of fruit coated in rock candy.
Blair says they’re the first place in Rochester to have this. He told News 8 today that he and his partners bring these Asian-inspired flavors to the community, and thought BayTowne was the place to do it.
“Being an Asian American, and being able to and being able to live outside of Rochester in a bigger city, I was able to experience more Asian-style places that everybody seems to love… I hated the fact that there aren’t many places like that in Rochester… Especially Webster on the east side of the city,” Blair said. “I feel like people here are very open to trying out new things. So far I’m right. We’ve been seeing a lot of positive reviews.”
