Sheriff: Woman behind sophisticated jewelry delivery theft scheme for 15 years

In a sophisticated plot that spanned over a decade, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) unraveled an intricate scheme orchestrated by Lakisha Pettus, resulting in the interception of three packages belonging to a local jeweler valued at approximately $86,000, detectives said.

The investigation, launched on January 12, 2024, revealed that Pettus, posing as an employee of the jeweler, employed a complex strategy to deceive package delivery companies, according to investigators.

Under the guise of legitimate transactions, she orchestrated the release of the valuable packages to a third-party courier service for a nominal payment.

Kyle Gutierrez, operating in Vallejo, played a pivotal role in taking possession of the stolen items and later handed them over to Pettus in exchange for a small fee, investigators added.

However, their criminal enterprise faced a major setback on January 15, 2024, when SIB Detectives intercepted Pettus’s attempt to pilfer another package valued at over $65,000, according to the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office.

Launching an undercover operation that led to Vallejo, California, detectives successfully apprehended both Kyle Gutierrez and Lakisha Pettus. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office promptly issued local warrants for their arrests.
