Driver cited after crash injures RI state trooper during snowstorm

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island State Police say one of their troopers was treated for minor injuries after a crash during Tuesday’s snowstorm .

According to state police, troopers responded to 18 crashes and 36 disabled vehicles during the storm.

One of those crashes happened on Route 6 East near the Hartford Avenue on-ramp in Johnston. Police said the trooper was on scene when a 24-year-old Cranston woman lost control of her vehicle and hit his cruiser from behind .

The woman was cited for violating the state’s “Move Over” law and failing to reduce speed when required.

State police posted a travel advisory during the storm, saying “snow is making travel difficult. Please use caution if you need to go out. Tractor-trailers are not permitted on highways and state roads until further notice. Troopers are out issuing citations and assisting those who have skidded off the roads.”
