HONOLULU (KHON2) — Wednesday will see strengthening winds from the southwest as a weak cold front edges closer from the northwest, crossing the island chain from Wednesday night into Friday morning. Cloud cover will increase, accompanied by showers as the front moves through. After passing, cool north winds will take over, eventually shifting to northeasterly trade winds for the weekend.
This evening, expect the development of nighttime land breezes across all islands due to the calm conditions. As the night progresses, cloud cover over land will diminish significantly. By Wednesday, the approaching front will start a transition to strengthening southwesterly winds. Progressing from Kauai Wednesday night, the front will cross the island chain through Friday morning, bringing a brief period of wet weather with clouds and showers. However, heavy rain or thunderstorms along the front are not anticipated.
Following the front’s passage, high pressure will rebuild, leading to cooler temperatures and breezy north to northeast winds. Windward and mauka showers will persist through early next week as the high pressure system shifts eastward north of the main Hawaiian Islands over the weekend.
