APD: 1 child dead after 183 Toll crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 10-year-old child was identified as the victim of a fatal crash that happened in east Austin Monday by Austin Police on Wednesday.

Around 7:20 p.m., officers responded to the crash between a sedan and a hatchback in the 200 block of U.S. 183 Toll SB lanes, according to a news release from APD.

According to police, the sedan was stopped in the middle lane and had its vehicle hazards on. Then, the hatchback crashed into the back of the sedan. Police said there were two children in the sedan at the time of the crash.

ATCEMS: Two children injured in east Austin crash

One of the children, DeErick Williams II, had life-threatening injuries from the crash and later died, according to police. The driver of the sedan was not injured and was not impaired. Furthermore, the driver of the hatchback had minor injuries and remained on the scene and cooperating with investigators, police said.

This is now being investigated as Austin’s sixth fatal crash of 2024 , which has resulted in six fatalities for the year, according to police.
