Car stolen from ‘homeless hero’ who saved lives in fiery I-70 crash

ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — A man hailed as a “ homeless hero ” for saving lives after a deadly 2019 crash on Interstate 70 now needs help.

Darin Barton, who was unhoused when he was credited with saving people from the fiery crash in Lakewood , is creating a new life for himself. But thieves took the car he’s worked so hard to finally afford.

Barton told FOX31 he will never forget the tragedy he viewed from the guardrail on the I-70 off-ramp at the Colorado Mills Parkway exit.

“It still haunts me every day. I still watch that video every day. I just — it’s going to be that way for the rest of my life,” he said.

Barton has come a long way, managing to find a job and earn enough money to move into his own apartment and pay for a new car.

“I’ve been waiting two years for this car,” he said.
