Remembering Kennedy Sanders: Fallen soldier honored at procession from Florida airport

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The remains of fallen U.S. soldier Sergeant Kennedy Sanders, are being transported to her hometown in a procession this week, according to NBC affiliate WTLV .

The 24-year-old was killed along with two other U.S. soldiers in a drone attack in Jordan on Jan. 28. The strike also injured 34 soldiers on the U.S. military base, located near the Syria border, the United States Central Command said.

Sanders’ body arrived at the Jacksonville International Airport at noon on Wednesday. The procession will begin on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and will travel from US-1 until arriving at the funeral home in her hometown of Waycross, Georgia.

WLTV reported that community members paid homage to Sanders and her sacrifice.

Funeral services are set to be held on Friday and continue through Saturday in Waycross.

All three fallen service members returned to the States on Feb. 2. Since the attack, the U.S. has sent retaliatory strikes against more than 85 Iran-backed targets in both Syria and Iraq, according to NBC News.
