Person choked in VCU Cabell Library bathroom, suspect not in custody

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A person was choked in a women’s bathroom at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Cabell Library on Wednesday, according to VCU Police.

According to a notice from VCU Police, officers received a delayed, anonymous report of an aggravated assault at the Cabell Library on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

The assault took place around 1 p.m. in a women’s restroom at the library. According to police, the unidentified victim was washing their hands when the suspect entered the bathroom and choked them with the scarf they were wearing.

A third person entered the bathroom and reportedly yelled at the suspect, telling them to stop. The suspect then fled.

The victim sustained minor injuries from the attack.

The suspect has not been found. According to police, the suspect is white and their gender is not known at this time. No other identifying details are known at the time of reporting.

VCU Police continue to investigate and have increased patrols in the area following the assault.
