COWETA, Okla. — According to a Coweta Fire representative, Coweta Fire responded to reports of a structure fire on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. on a multi-acre property near 161st Street South and 241st East Avenue.
The home on the property has significant damage after catching on fire.
Multiple vehicles and other buildings on the property were also affected by the fire along with surrounding grass and some large split wood piles.
“Property that had a lot of items on it, vehicles, buildings. The grass fire spread to this property that was occupied a lot with debris and the whole thing caught on fire. All five acres of it,” said Coweta Fire Chief Brian Woodward. “All the other items, there was an older house that was here, it burnt to the ground. Multiple other vehicles burnt, quite a few other outbuildings burnt.”
No one on the property was injured in the fire including their three dogs.
The fire is not posing any further danger.
“30 mile an hour winds. We assume that it was from some kind of control burn. We haven’t made it that far, but usually it’s from some kind of controlled burn that gets out of control from people just not knowing the right fire safety and expectations of how fast fire can move in these kind of conditions,” Woodward said.
