On February 14, 2024, an Anchorage Police Department (APD) officer began an investigation into threats at Alpenglow Elementary School. The investigation was prompted by a student who reported hearing another student make threats during lunch on February 13th. The student informed their parents, who contacted the school officials the next morning.

The school officials alerted the School Resource Unit (SRO) officer, who responded to the incident at the school, located at 19201 Driftwood Bay Drive in Eagle River. The officer initiated the investigation and spoke with the student suspected of making the threats.

Following the investigation, charges were sent to the Division of Juvenile Justice. No weapons were found on the school premises. The APD thanked the student who reported the threats and urged parents to remind their children to report any suspicious or dangerous activities to an adult.

The APD noted that several students had heard the threats, but only one reported them. The APD stressed the importance of reporting any suspicious activities for the safety of the school.
