Construction on University Avenue in Lafayette, LA will begin on February 20, 2024. The project, called the University Avenue Revitalization, will extend from Alcide Dominque Dr. to Walker Rd. The project aims to replace the center turn lane with a raised median and upgrade pedestrian facilities, landscaping, and lighting.
The construction will involve concrete pavement and curb work, base course, drainage, sidewalks, driveways, handicap ramps, asphalt overlay, pavement markings, signing, and street lighting. The center turn lane will be removed and the travel lanes will be moved towards the middle of the road. The lanes will be narrowed to create a work zone on the road’s outer edges.
Work will be conducted between 6 pm and 7 am. Mobile operations will occur nightly from February 20 to February 23 for striping. Motorists should anticipate intermittent lane closures throughout the project.
However, there will be no lane closures from 7 am to 8:30 am and 5 pm to 6 pm from Monday to Friday, and from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm on school days. Southbound traffic may be affected if queues impact exits on I-10.
