Protester injured in hit-and-run, driver arrested

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A man was arrested after allegedly hitting a protester in a crosswalk and driving away while trying to navigate around a crowd of demonstrators near Pioneer Park on Tuesday night.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the driver — identified as Marcus Bryant Lee, 29 — told police he “felt something” but drove away because he did not want to stop at the protest. Lee was arrested on one count of failing to remain at an accident involving an injury, according to the probable cause statement.

The protest on Tuesday was organized to show support for Palestine following the news of recent events that had taken place in Rafah.

The protesters were reportedly in the middle of the intersection, and even though the light was green, most of the other vehicles were yielding to the crowd, according to the affidavit.

The protester who was reportedly hit by Lee’s car was taken to the hospital for a broken foot with two fractures; she called police after she arrived at the hospital, according to the probable cause statement.
