BRIGHTON, Colo. (KDVR) — A man accused of shooting and killing a teenager who was allegedly breaking into a car in Aurora pleaded not guilty on Thursday and his trial date was set for this summer.
In court, Orest Schur stood next to his attorney in an Adams County courtroom answering for the charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
3 found dead in car crash, fire in Fort Collins
Aurora police say the 28-year-old shot and killed a teenager and wounded another as they were trying to break into his car.
The use of deadly force when someone is stealing your property is not allowed in Colorado, according to attorneys FOX31 spoke with.
“So, the question is going to be if the defendant did use deadly force, were there justifiable reasons to do so?” FOX31 legal analyst Kevin Benninger said.
Aurora police said Schur confronted the two teenagers, got in his car, chased them and fired shots at them as they drove away in another stolen car.
The two teens eventually ended up crashing.
