Albuquerque Police Department (APD) detectives have charged Nathan Henson, a 31-year-old man currently in prison in Oklahoma, with the 2020 murder of Nehemiah Lovato. The incident occurred at the Valencia Court Apartments in Albuquerque, where Henson allegedly shot Lovato during a struggle over a backpack. Surveillance footage was instrumental in identifying Henson as the suspect.
The video showed Henson drawing a firearm and aiming it at Lovato, while another person tried to take Lovato’s backpack. During the struggle, Lovato was shot and fell to the ground. Police arrived soon after and confirmed that Lovato had died from the gunshot wound.
Henson was identified as the suspect when detectives compared images from the surveillance video of the shooting night with footage from a previous incident at the same apartment complex. In the earlier incident, which happened on September 17, 2020, Henson was stabbed. Detectives have also recently identified other individuals present during the shooting.
