FBI Allegedly Believes I-70 Serial Killer Originated From Indianapolis, According to a New Book

The I-70 killings, a series of murders in strip malls from Indiana to Kansas in the early 1990s, remain a long-standing mystery.

The Central U.S. witnessed the killer targeting small-stature brunette women working alone in strip mall stores near interstates. The investigation involved collaboration among detectives from various cities.

Commencing at a Payless ShoeSource store in 1992, these slayings are extensively explored in a new book, “Dead End: Inside the Hunt for the I-70 Serial Killer.” The first case involved Robin Fuldauer in Indianapolis, followed by incidents in Wichita and Terre Haute within weeks.

A breakthrough occurred in Terre Haute in 2001, linking a suspect to a murder through security camera footage. However, the prosecutor declined to sign a murder warrant.

Despite extensive investigations and cooperation across the Midwest, the killer’s identity remains elusive. In 2021, a task force, including detectives from Indianapolis, was formed to share evidence.

DNA analysis, though promising, has not yet provided a match. The suspect’s psychological makeup, described by an FBI profiler, suggests a thrill-seeking motive.
