Cicadas set to make loud return to Oklahoma in Spring

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Cicadas are set to make a loud return this spring!

Known as Brood 19 or the Great Southern Brood. These 13-year cicadas will make an appearance in several states including Oklahoma starting in May.

The Brood 19 Cicadas are set to emerge at the same time as the 17-year Cicadas. It has been 200 years since this has happened. The crossover will only happen in parts of the Midwest. Cicadas aren’t all bad. They do help add nutrients to the soil and are a good source of food for many birds.

For those looking for the next Cicada experience, start planning a trip to Stilwell in late May.
