Two Appleton men sentenced for methamphetamine trafficking/money laundering

APPLETON, WI – A federal court sentences five people to prison for methamphetamine trafficking and money laundering in the Fox Valley. Two of the five people sentenced are from Appleton while three are from Washington state. Luis Leon of Appleton receives seven-years in prison for money laundering and Julio Vargas-Rodriguez also of Appleton is sentenced to six years for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine. Federal investigators say between 2021 and 2022 large quantities of methamphetimine were trafficked from Mexico into the U.S. The investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately $300,000 in cash, 125 pounds of methamphetamine, several vehicles, and dozens of firearms.
