KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A First Warn has been issued for the Missouri River Valley Friday morning as snow shower activity becomes more and more confident in our forecast. An area of low pressure slides off the Rockies and deepens south into southern central Oklahoma. At the same time, high pressure develops to the northwest within Montana forcing cold Canadian air down into the Missouri River Valley. To the east of the Ohio River Valley area of high pressure rotates, allowing us to lift precipitation from the low-pressure system north into the Missouri River Valley. This allows us to get chances for inclement weather to increase across our region, but due to the colder air, it is more likely to see snow shower activity. The potential for precipitation can be as early as late tonight between the hours of 10:30 PM and midnight. We should start with a few showers and potentially a winter mix to our northern counties but as temperatures drop just below freezing by 3 a.m. rain chances diminish and snow chances take over.
