KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Scout of the Year Trace Nystrom’s statewide advocacy campaign focused on the subject of invasive silver carp living in some of Tennessee’s waterways.
His unique Eagle Scout project, which took several years to research and produce, spread the word by explaining how this species of fish has a detrimental impact on the ecosystems of the upper Tennessee River basin.

“Tons of people have no idea of what the issue is and the severity of it. How it is going to affect the underwater ecosystem and the local economies along our lakes and rivers,” said Nystrom.
In Nashville, Nystrom’s Eagle project was well received by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for its public service. He even had the opportunity to make a presentation before a special state senate committee.
“It was terrifying, honest. I was so nervous. But it was so much fun. I had a great experience,” said Nystrom.
