The Charlotte County Airport Authority has received a $10 million grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding will be used for the expansion and renovation of the Bailey Terminal at Punta Gorda Airport (PGD). The project, estimated to cost $45 million in total, includes improvements to the security checkpoint, public circulation, restrooms, and gate waiting areas.
This grant is part of a larger $970 million initiative by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The initiative, part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, will distribute funds to 114 airports across 44 states and three territories. The goal is to accommodate the increasing demand for air travel, enhance passenger experience, improve accessibility, promote sustainability, and create jobs.
The FAA’s investments will fund new baggage systems, larger security checkpoints, increased gate capacity, and infrastructure modernization. The initiative also aims to improve terminal sustainability and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Nine grants will specifically be used for the renovation of aging air traffic control towers.
