A well-being check in the Town of Ripley led to the arrest of a Mayville man on drug-related charges on Sunday. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an undisclosed business shortly after 4:45 AM and later became aware of an active warrant out of Jamestown for 34-year-old James Mawhir, who was reportedly on scene. Mawhir was quickly located and taken into custody, and a search of his vehicle led to the seizure of a quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with a felony count of 5th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and 2nd-degree criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Jamestown Police Department for arraignment and released, and he will appear in Ripley Town Court at a later date.
