As winter maintains its grip on the Mid-Atlantic region, residents in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area are gearing up for another round of potential snowfall this Presidents Day weekend. Following a recent dusting of snow in some northern and western areas earlier this week, the Capital Weather Gang predicts a new chance for snow to usher in the long weekend.
While not expected to be a major storm, forecasts suggest the possibility of a few inches of snow overnight from Friday into Saturday. Colder regions north and west of D.C. might have better chances for accumulating snow, as a sustained period of moderate snowfall could cool temperatures sufficiently for accumulation. However, the outcome remains uncertain, as lighter and intermittent snowfall might lead to warmer temperatures, limiting accumulation potential and possibly causing precipitation to mix with rain, especially in the southern and eastern areas.
AccuWeather anticipates the D.C. metropolitan area receiving 1 to 3 inches of snow, with the possibility of mixed precipitation in southern regions near Richmond. Despite the potential for snow, forecasters caution against high expectations due to relatively warm temperatures. Saturday’s high could reach above 40 degrees, with Friday night lows just hitting freezing.
