Schmucker’s Restaurant, a classic diner near the Toledo Botanical Garden, does a great job drawing attention to itself, with a bright neon sign and plenty of lights on the building. Upon entering, the smells from the kitchen and the bustling seating area entice patrons even more.
However, the food itself can be hit or miss, with some outstanding dishes and others that may leave the diner a bit disappointed.
The first dish we tried was the Wimpy Burger platter ($8.39), which is a standard cheeseburger with two patties, served with fries. It was good, definitely above average for a diner burger. The bun was very soft, which made eating it a bit messy, but all together the ingredients worked well. The fries are different than many restaurants offer, hand-cut and of varying sizes. They weren’t the best fries we’ve ever tried, but definitely enjoyable.
