BAPD officer resigns after internal investigation over dog attack caught on camera

UPDATE (2/15/24) — A Broken Arrow police officer resigned following an internal investigation after he was charged with animal cruelty.

The Broken Arrow Police Department released an update on Thursday regarding the investigation into the alleged misconduct of a former police officer.

The charges are related to an incident caught on camera Aug. 28 where an officer is seen following a dog around before using pepper spray on it.

Former BAPD Officer Roy Golden was charged with cruelty to animals and acts resulting in gross injury/outraging public decency in September.

BAPD released the following statement from Police Chief Brandon Berryhill:

“At the culmination of the investigation, Mr. Golden resigned from the Broken Arrow Police Department and his resignation has been accepted. Mr. Golden’s decision was made at the conclusion of the internal investigation on the eve of his pre-determination hearing. Pre-determination hearings are required by state law as part of due process and are necessary prior to the administration of employee discipline. The Wagoner County Attorney’s Office is continuing its prosecution of Mr. Golden.
