Shelter in place at Napa high school lifted after several students fell ill

( KRON ) — A shelter-in-place issued earlier on Thursday at Vintage High School in Napa has been lifted following an incident in which several students fell ill. According to the Napa Police Department, some students began feeling ill during first period choir class.

School administrators and teachers acted quickly, police said, and got students out of the choir room. Students who felt ill were cared for by the school nursing staff and emergency medical services.

Parents of students who fell ill are being contacted by emergency medical services.

In accordance with protocols, the Napa Fire Department was called. Napa FD recommended a shelter in place out of an abundance of caution while the campus was evaluated. PG&E also responded, police said.

No gas or carbon monoxide was found in the choir room. However, Napa FD has advised that the choir room not be used for the time being.

Parents of students who fell ill are still being contacted, police said. While the shelter in place has been lifted, police are asking people to avoid the area for now as emergency personnel remain on the scene and are coordinating resources.
