SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — In the quarterfinals of the Region 3-AAA tournament, four teams punched tickets to the state playoffs on Feb. 15.
On the boys’ side, Calvary Day and Savannah Country Day advanced to the semifinals. Calvary Day, the No. 5 seed, upset the No. 4 seed Liberty County, 41-39. The Cavaliers were able to hang on after Liberty County missed two free throws with just under three seconds left. Calvary Day faces Johnson on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Savannah Country Day pulled its second upset over the tournament. The Hornets defeated Groves, 64-51. Savannah Country Day will play Long County at 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Johnson High School.
On the girls’ side, Beach qualified for the state tournament after defeating Johnson, 52-32. Beach squares off with Calvary Day at 1 p.m. for a spot in the region championship at Johnson High School.
Liberty County also will play in the state tournament after defeating Long County, 37-30. In the region semifinals, the Panthers face Savannah Country Day at 4:30 p.m. at Johnson High School.
