Traffic stop leads to gun, drug arrests in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Two people were arrested after a traffic stop in Albany near Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue. Rhaking Birmingham, 40, and Zanique Browne, 28, each face multiple charges.

On Wednesday, police pulled over a car near Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue for a traffic violation. According to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation found both possessed a loaded .45 caliber Hi-Point semi-automatic gun with a defaced serial number.

Deputies say neither Birmingham nor Browne had the right to possess any firearms. Deputies also say Birmingham had a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl for distribution.

Birmingham Charges:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (two counts)
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (three counts)
  • Fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator
  • Traffic violation
