$1 billion Kensington Expressway project to move forward

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is in Western New York on Friday to likely announce plans to move forward with the $1 billion project to cap a three-quarters-of-a-mile portion of the Kensington Expressway between Dodge Street and Sidney Street.

The Buffalo News reports that The Federal Highway Administration has given the project the green light after finding no significant impact in the environmental assessment conducted over the past two years by the State

The Federal decision would allow the project to go to final design and construction phase before shovels hit the ground.

In a statement released Thursday, the Governor’s Office said Gov. Hochul has been supportive of the project, and there would be more to say on Friday. A scheduled press event is set to take place at 10:50 a.m. EST in East Buffalo.
