Fish fries and seafood around Indianapolis for Lent

February 14 marked Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, which means, among other things, fish fry season. From restaurants to parishes, several spots around Indianapolis will offer all manner of battered seafood for the next six Fridays.

Whether you’re Orthodox, Episcopalian, pescatarian or just a bit peckish, here are some places to find fish fries during the Lenten season.

Carmel American Legion Post 155

Where: 852 W. Main St., Carmel

When: 6-8 p.m., every Friday through March 29

Dinner at this veterans organization includes a selection of fried fish, shrimp and chicken — for those with a looser definition of fasting — ranging from $7 to $13 with sides including hush puppies, French fries and coleslaw. Call (317) 846-0001 for more information.

Christ the King Catholic Church

Where: 5884 Crittendon Ave.,

When: 6 p.m. on Feb. 23 and March 8

The meal at Christ the King includes fish, French fries, macaroni and cheese, green beans and rolls. High schoolers and adults eat for $12, kids for $6 and adults 65 or older for $12, with a maximum of $50 per household. Meals come with water or lemonade.
