Planned Parenthood, often seen solely as a provider of women’s sexual and reproductive care, will soon begin offering vasectomies for men in Indianapolis.
The announcement came six months after Planned Parenthood ceased providing abortions in the state, after the Indiana Supreme Court upheld a 2022 law that said only hospitals could perform the procedure.
Planned Parenthood officials said that abortion bans across more than 20 states sparked interest in long-term contraceptive options.

“In the midst of losing Roe, we have continued to look to expand,” said Kalli Weiner, health center manager for the northwest Indianapolis and Lafayette, Indiana, clinics. “People are looking for more long-term birth control now that abortion is not available.”
Hammond’s Planned Parenthood clinic has offered vasectomies for about a year, and a doctor at the Mishawaka site started performing the outpatient procedure in the fall. The Fort Wayne clinic started offering it Thursday and the Georgetown Road facility in Indianapolis will come on board in late March.
