Friday, February 16: Cold, rain and snow to wrap up the week

After yet another nice stretch of weather, we turn colder beginning today and into Saturday. A storm system today will bring in colder Canadian air for the Ozarks with temperatures starting out in the 40s falling to the low to mid-30s this afternoon.

Scattered light rain showers and light snow showers are likely this morning into the afternoon. Rain is most likely along and south of I-44 and light snow is likely along and north of I-44. Both rain and snow amounts will be low with 0.25″ or less of rainfall in the south and generally no more than 1-2 inches at most of snowfall in central Missouri.

The precipitation moves out late this afternoon and evening. Tonight will be cold in the low 20s and upper teens. Wind chills Saturday morning will drop to around 10 degrees across the area and temperatures Saturday afternoon won’t climb far likely only making the upper 30s. At least it’ll be a sunny day.

The cooldown is short-lived. The mild mode of weather we’ve enjoyed for most of the past few weeks will resume next week. After a round of clouds and a few showers on Monday, we’ll be back to sunshine and highs in the 60s and 70s through midweek. The next storm could bring a risk of thunderstorms to the area by Thursday morning.
