KENTUCKY ( FOX 56 ) — Many classrooms will be empty on Friday as students and teachers get an unexpected day off. Among the school systems attempting to control a spike in sickness are Lee, Estill, and Scott counties, along with Somerset and Jackson Independent.
Scott County Superintendent Bill Parker said students, teachers, and even bus drivers are sick.

“Before we even get to tomorrow, we are short numerous routes both in the morning and afternoon,” said Parker. He says the alternative would be having some students wait an extended amount of time for transportation to arrive, so canceling school is a better option.
Health professionals said RSV, the flu, COVID, and strep throat, are the biggest illnesses that are affecting people right now. Superintendent Parker says those exact illnesses are why districts are deciding to give their students a four-day weekend ahead of President’s Day.
