On February 15, 2024, Joshua Nareau, the grandson of a homicide victim, was arrested in Englewood, Florida. He was charged with the murder of his grandfather, James S. Khoury. The incident took place on December 28, 2023, at 8432 Matecumbe Rd., South Gulf Cove community. Khoury was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence. The Major Case Unit and other law enforcement teams found evidence of a rifle used in the crime.
There were no witnesses or security camera footage. However, detectives developed several leads. Nareau, who was at the scene when deputies arrived, was identified as a person of interest. The evidence collected was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing.
The test results, along with other investigative methods, led to Nareau’s arrest. He was charged with second-degree murder and taken to the Charlotte County Jail on February 15, 2024.
Sheriff Bill Prummell praised his team’s work and expressed relief at the progress of the investigation. He acknowledged the impact on the victim’s family and hoped for peace in the community.
