In a shocking incident that has left the community of Denver in disbelief, a 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder and multiple felonies related to a fatal shooting on an RTD bus. The incident unfolded on January 27, near South Federal Boulevard and West Mississippi Avenue in Denver, resulting in the tragic death of 60-year-old Richard Sanchez.
The Unfolding Tragedy:
Around 6:40 p.m., the RTD bus became the scene of a horrifying event as Richard Sanchez was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries. Another individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident. According to the Denver Police (DPD), the genesis of the tragedy was an argument between the suspect and Sanchez over the positioning of Sanchez’s leg, which eventually escalated into a fatal shooting.
Arrest and Charges:
The 13-year-old suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, was apprehended five days after the shooting. Denver prosecutors have charged him with a staggering 14 counts, including six counts of first-degree murder, endangering public transport threat crew, at-risk assault, first-degree assault, firearm/explosive on public transport, disorderly conduct discharge of a firearm, and several other charges. Nine of the 14 counts are felonies.
