LORAIN , Ohio (WJW) — It was a birthday celebration for Trent Neal, “a vibrant 28-year-old in the prime of his life,” Lorain police Sgt. Kyle Gelenius is quoted in a news release.
But Neal was killed June 17, when the car in which he was riding passenger crashed at high speed in the 4100 block of Kolbe Road, near Rossi Way on Lorain’s west side, striking a concrete culvert and flipping over, according to police.
Amber Alert canceled: Missing 5-year-old found dead
The 24-year-old driver, Neal’s friend Nicholas Fenik, of Vermilion , had been drinking, according to police. Fenik was arrested Friday on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide following a months-long investigation into the crash, according to the release.
“This was a truly tragic case to investigate. What started as a birthday celebration for a friend turned deadly when Fenik made the conscious decision to drink and drive,” Gelenius, the crash reconstructionist, is quoted in the release.
