Motorcycle Racing Ends in Crash That Killed Rider And Pedestrian in Albuquerque

A Tuesday night street race between two motorcyclists in Albuquerque turned deadly, claiming the lives of a motorcyclist and a pedestrian on the city’s West Side.

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) responded to a call just before 10 p.m. regarding a fatal crash at the intersection of Coors and Irving NW.

According to APD spokeswoman Franchesca Perdue, witnesses reported that two motorcycles were racing north on Coors when they maneuvered around a stationary sedan. Tragically, during this dangerous maneuver, one of the motorcyclists collided with a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

Following the collision, the motorcycle traveled approximately 450 feet, striking a curb, a gas station fuel price sign, and a tree. Emergency services, including Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Albuquerque Ambulance, arrived swiftly and attempted life-saving measures on the pedestrian. However, their efforts proved unsuccessful. The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital for treatment while the other fled.

Perdue stated that the pedestrian’s identity has yet to be confirmed.
