On January 22, 2024, the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities stopped a drug smuggling attempt. The suspect, Caitlyn Nicole Cain, 26, from Pasadena, was arrested and charged. The drugs, believed to be Suboxone, were meant for an inmate.

The Anne Arundel County Police Criminal Gang Unit worked with the Department of Detention Facility Security Threat Group Unit. They identified the intended recipient of the drugs as Malique Gabriel Williams, 24, also from Pasadena. Williams knew about the smuggling attempt beforehand.

Williams was charged on February 9, 2024, after an investigation. The Maryland State Police, Anne Arundel County Police Department, and Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities worked together on this case.

The investigation was part of the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN). This initiative aims to identify and break up criminal organizations. The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention & Policy supports MCIN with grant funding and strategic help.
