Card skimmers discovered at these 10 Big Y locations in Massachusetts

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Big Y announced that they have discovered card skimming devices were inserted at several Big Y locations across western Massachusetts.

Why Massachusetts EBT cards are vulnerable to theft

According to Big Y, between December 19 and December 21, 2023, it is alleged an unknown person placed a skimming device at the following supermarket locations:

  • Springfield on St. James Avenue
  • Chicopee (Express)
  • Northampton
  • Ware
  • Southbridge
  • Worcester
  • Milford
  • Wilbraham (Express)
  • Ludlow

In addition, a skimming device was placed on a single card reader at their Westfield location on East Silver Street between December 19 through January 12.

“We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, and we notified and are working with law enforcement. We have inspected all of our terminals, and continue to do so. If we learn that any particular customer’s information was compromised, we will promptly notify them and provide them with additional information so that they can take steps to protect themselves.”
