Man Sentenced to Life for Austell Murder

A Douglasville man has received a life sentence, without the possibility for parole, for malice murder he committed in August 2021.

Sony Lebrun, 37, was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon by a Cobb County jury on Feb. 1.

Cobb Superior Court Judge Sonja Brown sentenced Lebrun to life in prison without the possibility for parole, as well as 10 additional years to be served in confinement Friday.

Lebrun fatally shot Eric Stone in the head, as part of an ongoing dispute in a road rage incident, at the gate of the Premier Lane Apartments in Austell on Aug. 6, 2021.

Lebrun was identified to police as the assailant by witnesses to the crime, and was able to be tracked by GPS cell phone data to the scene of the crime.

The case was prosecuted on behalf of the state by Cobb County Assistant District Attorneys Jay Winkler and Donna Merrell. In a press release, District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr. said the conviction is exemplary of the work done by his office.
